Financial Aid (OASFAA)

This session will cover State and Federal financial aid updates for counseling students applying for aid in the 2020-2021 academic year. In addition, the session will focus on the FAFSA filing process to include the Mobile App, how to request the FSAID, Dependency Status, unusual student/family circumstances and much more. Additionally, we will discuss best practices for when and how to counsel students and families on how to pay for college.

Ohio Department of Higher Education

This presentation will provide an update on higher education initiatives in the state including: Ohio’s Attainment Goal; the College Application and FAFSA Completion Campaign; Ohio’s Remediation Free Guarantee; Ohio’s Guaranteed Transfer Pathways; and other initiatives related to college access, completion and affordability. The presentation will provide an opportunity for questions and answers on these and other topics of interest to attendees.

College Credit Plus Update

College Credit Plus is increasing in popularity across the state, and school counselors have significant responsibilities in managing this program. This session will focus on changes to CCP law that were adopted in spring of 2018, with special emphasis on course eligibility, student eligibility, and underperforming students. Attendees will be able to learn from Ohio Department of Higher Education staff and members of the Ohio Alliance of Dual Enrollment Partnerships.

Recruitment During COVID-19

How can we make the most out of a virtual visits and fairs during COVID-19? Sit down with your colleagues on both sides of the desk for a conversation about working collaboratively during COVID-19. OACAC’s Virtual College Exploration for Ohio Students

Starting next week, OACAC is kicking off our “Virtual College Exploration for All Ohio Students” in partnership with StriveScan. This program features dozens of panel presentations and hundreds of college information sessions that will replace all OACAC-sponsored college fairs this fall. Learn about the incredible wealth of information that will be offered and why school counselors should encourage your students to participate. 

When in-person college fairs can resume, OACAC will also be utilizing StriveScan’s technology for student barcode scanning.
