BIPOC students often have a unique experience in navigating the college search process. Join us for direct and practical advice from high school counselors and Community Based Organization directors who are leaders in promoting diversity, equity, and access in education.
We’ll cover topics like how to begin your college search, crafting a college list reflective of your values and must-haves, partnering with your family and/or counselors, setting yourself up for success in your senior year of high school, tips for the application and financial aid process, and finding and using resources.

Join this session to learn how to brainstorm topics, discover a writing process that works for you, and understand what admission committees are looking for in an essay. During this presentation we will discuss the purpose of the personal essay for college applications; why are students asked to write them, how best to approach the task (as well as how NOT to accomplish this), and what Admissions Committees are hoping to learn via your essay. We’ll also talk about supplemental application essays and school-specific questions.

Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Choosing a Major
Clueless about what it means to pick a major or worried you’ll make the wrong choice? Have too many interests to settle on just one? Don’t stress. This session will take the angst out of what to study in college with proven tips on how to choose the best major for you. It also will cover double majors, minors, undeclared pathways and even introduce you to majors you might never have dreamed of!
Addressing the Needs of
Underrepresented Students
Different students have different needs on different college campuses. These needs may range from emotional, physical or mental. How can 3 very different college campuses assist students in the best way possible given populations, faculty, resources, etc? Join ODU, JMU and Radford for some insight on how we best address the needs of underrepresented populations!
What is STEM?
This session will provide a brief overview of each institution, discuss “What is STEM?”, what it means to be an engineer vs. a scientist, provide an introduction to the various STEM degrees, review job, co-op, and internship opportunities within STEM fields and what it takes to be a STEM applicant at one of our schools. Participants will also have a chance to ask the admissions representatives questions so you can get the information you really need for your college search.

opportunities after high school
Experiencing another country is a rewarding experience, whether it’s building an understanding of other people and yourself, making friends from around the world, or developing skills attractive to future employers. In this session focused on Ireland, the UK, Australia, and Canada, explore your options for study and travel outside of the US after high school. These include doing a degree abroad, studying abroad as part of your US college experience, and working holiday visa programs.
Discover the similarities and differences between international and American universities. Learn about entry requirements and the application process, academic and student life, affordability and finances, graduate outcomes, and career opportunities. Come away with an understanding of what it takes to thrive abroad!

Parents are welcome to join! Please click the registration links on the schedule and use the Parents registration form.
How do counselors register?
Counselors and educators are welcome to join! Please click the registration links on the schedule and use the Counselor/Professionals registration form.
Will the colleges be able to see or hear me?
No. Your camera and microphone will be off, so the college representatives will not be able to see or hear you. (So there’s no need to dress up!)
If you’d like to ask a question, you’ll be able to type your question using the Q&A tool.
How do I join the webinar?
First, register for each session you want to attend.
Once you register, you’ll receive a confirmation email with your personalized link to join the Zoom Webinar.
A reminder email and link will be sent again one day and one hour before the session begins.
Will sessions be recorded?
Yes. Sessions will be recorded and available on this page within a week after the program concludes.
We encourage you to participate live so you can ask questions and interact with the college admission counselors.
If you cannot attend live, you should still register for the session you’re interested in. This will allow the colleges in the session to follow up with you directly.
Can I participate in more than one session?
Yes! You are encouraged to register and attend multiple sessions to gain exposure to a range of different colleges and universities.
Consider signing up for sessions with colleges you may have never heard of before to explore the many opportunities available.
